Lake Mutanda is a small freshwater lake nestled between the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in the Virunga Mountains. The environment on the islands within the lake and the surrounding countryside includes wetland habitats and lakeside forests rising up the mountainsides which are home to the endangered Mountain Gorilla.
Canoe trip on Lake Mutanda (available whilst staying at NKURINGO LODGE):
Enjoy the scenery of the lake from your dugout canoe as you join a specialist guide on a 2.5hr gentle journey along the shoreline. Look out for brown otters often sighted in the lake, and a vast variety of bird-life. The local fisherman are likely to be the only 'traffic' as you glide in the shadow of the towering mountains. This is surely one of the most scenic locations in Uganda. Your canoe guide will do the paddling if you wish. You may also chose to hike back to the lodge or combine hiking with vehicle support to enjoy the scenery further in the company of your professional walking guide.
